Army Major arrested from Meerut for killing colleague’s wife

NEW DELHI: An Indian Army Major was today arrested from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh for his alleged involvement in the killing of another Army Major’s wife Shailja Dwivedi (35) in west Delhi yesterday, a senior officer said.nnA police officer said that Army Major Nikhil Handa was arrested by the Delhi Police team. After the arrest, they informed their counterparts in Meerut.nnThe victim’s husband was currently posted in 11, Jaklies Unit in Nagaland and she was living with her six-year-old son.nnThey had come to Delhi two months ago and were to leave for a deputation to Sudan for a United Nations mission in a couple of weeks. Cops said that she had met the suspect, who was seen on CCTV footage near the hospital, in Nagaland.nnThe woman’s body was found with her throat slit near the Brar Square in the Delhi Cantonment area yesterday.nnInitially, the police was informed that a woman had died in an accident. Later, when they inspected the body, it was found that her throat was slit, they said.nnThe accused had allegedly run a car over her face and the body in order to make the incident appear as an accident, police said.nnThe woman was dropped at the Army Base Hospital in her husband’s official vehicle by a driver yesterday.nnLater, when he came back to pick her up, he could not find her and learnt that she did not attend her scheduled physiotherapy session.nnWith Press Trust of India inputs
