BJD candidate Rita Sahu files nomination for Bijepur bypolls

BHUBANESWAR: BJD candidate Rita Sahu today filed her nomination papers for the February 24 by-elections to Bijepur assembly seat.nnSahu submitted her documents at the sub-collector’s office in Padampur, Bargarh district, in the presence of senior leaders and ministers, including Prafulla Mallick, Susanta Singh, Niranjan Pujari and Snehangini Chhuria.nnThe by-election was necessitated following the death of Subal Sahu, three-time Congress MLA from the seat, in August last year.nnRita Sahu, wife of Subal Sahu, joined the ruling party a month after.nn”BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will campaign at Bijepur for a day,” said BJD Rajya Sabha MP Prasanna Acharya.nnThe bypoll will see a triangular contest between the BJD, the BJP and the Congress.nnBJP nominee from the seat and former MLA Ashok Panigrahi filed his nomination from the seat on February 2.nnCongress candidate Pranaya Sahu is scheduled to submit his papers tomorrow, the last day for filing of nominations from the seat.nnThe result of the by-election will be declared on February 28.nnSource: Press Trust of India
