Jammu and Kashmir political parties bid farewell to NN Vohra

SRINAGAR: A delegation of prominent political parties led by presidents of National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today bid farewell to former Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra here.nnThe leaders of political parties led by Abdullah and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti met Vohra at Raj Bhavan here today, a Raj Bhavan spokesman said.nnHe said the group included senior members and former ministers representing the NC, PDP and Indian National Congress.nnBesides, the spokesman said, prominent representatives of the Sikh community and leaders of business, trade and travel groups also met Vohra to bid him farewell.nnOn behalf of the delegation, Abdullah thanked Vohra for his able guidance, sage advice and sincere service to the state during his over ten-year tenure in the Raj Bhavan, the spokesman said.nnHe said Abdullah’s sentiments were strongly supported by Mehbooba who thanked Vohra for having guided and advised her on all occasions, particularly after her father and former chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed passed away in January 2015.nnThe spokesman said other speakers also expressed appreciation of the constructive and pro-people role played by the former governor particularly in regard to his handling various sensitive issues relating to J-K.nnHe said Abdullah stated that if more time had been available, representatives of political parties and representatives of various other segments from different parts of the state, including Ladakh, would have also come to bid farewell to the former Governor in a befitting manner.nnSpeaking on behalf of the delegation, Abdullah and Mehbooba expressed hope that the former Governor would continue to act as the state’s Ambassador in the coming time.nnVohra thanked Abdullah, Mehbooba and all members of the group who had graciously come to meet him and for their kind good words, the spokesman said.nnHe said Vohra, while recalling his very long involvement with J-K’s affairs, assured that he would be very happy to further the interests of the state, whenever he had an opportunity to do so.nnSource: Press Trust of India
