NEW DELHI: The ruling BJP on Sunday set a target of winning more than 220 out of the total 288 seats in the Maharashtra Assembly polls due later this year.nnSenior BJP leader and Maharashtra Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar moved a political resolution to this effect at the party’s state executive meeting here.nnMungantiwar said the BJP along with its allies will win more than 220 seats in the forthcoming state polls.nn”Abki bar 220 par,” he said.nnHe dubbed the Congress as a “scam-tainted party which gave a lot of pain to ‘Bharat Mata’ (mother India)”.nn”The Congress and the NCP are like the sinking ‘Titanic’ ship. This structure will not benefit the party at all,” he said.nnThe state executive meeting is being held to prepare for the Assembly polls, due in September-October.nnIn 2014, the BJP emerged as the single largest party, winning 123 Assembly seats in the 288-member House, and later joined hands with the Shiv Sena.nnGadkari, Munde absent from Maha BJP executive meetnnUnion Minister Nitin Gadkari and Maharashtra Women and Children Development minister Pankaja Munde were Sunday absent from the executive meeting of the state unit of the BJP.nn

nnBJP working president JP Nadda, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and newly-appointed state unit chief Chandrakant Patil attended the meeting.nnMunde was scheduled to move a political resolution along with state Finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar.nnMungantiwar was present for the meeting despite being unwell for the past three days, Patil said.nn”He shouldn’t have strained himself but he still attended to move the political resolution,” he said.nnHe informed that Munde could not attend as she was travelling abroad for her son’s college admission, while Gadkari, who was scheduled the address the gathering, had an important meeting.nnThe state executive meeting is being held to prepare for Assembly elections slated for later this year.nnSource: Press Trust of India
