NEW DELHI:The BJP has won the prestige battle as party has won nine out of the 10 Rajya Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh while defeating the SP and BSP combine candidate B.R. Ambedkar by second preference vote count and avenging Lok Sabha bypoll loss.nnRecently, the party, which is in power in both the state, lost both Gorakhpur, Phulpur Lok Sabha Seats in the bypoll in Uttar Pradesh. The Gorakhpur seat, until recently, was represented by chief minister Yogi Adityanath. Significantly, Gorakhpur was earlier held by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya had held the Phulpur seat.nnBJP candidates who won are Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Ashok Bajpai, Vijay Pal Singh Tomar, Sakal Deep Rajbhar, Kanta Kardam, Anil Jain, Harnath Singh Yadav and G V L Narasimha Rao, Anil Kumar Agarwal, and ninth candidate Anil Kumar Agarwal, who won with the help of second preference votes.nnOn the other hands, Samjawadi Party?s candidate Jaya Bachchan won the 9th seat with 38 votes but BSP?s candidate lost a fierce contest for the 10th seat, notching up only 32 first preference votes instead of 37 he needed.nn nn
