YSRCP has pushed Polavaram project into uncertainty: TDP

AMARAVATI: Senior Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and former irrigation minister Devineni Uma said that the YSRCP government has pushed the Polavaram project into uncertainty.

“YSRCP government pushed Polavaram lifeline irrigation project into uncertainty by pursuing impractical and illogical policies,” said Uma.

He alleged that the Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy regime is making all efforts to cover up its inefficiencies and failures by misusing police from preventing opposition leaders from visiting the project.

“Over 72 per cent work was completed under the dynamic leadership of former chief minister Chandrababu Naidu but the YSRCP ministers and MPs were spreading falsehoods that only 30 to 40 per cent work was finished,” said the TDP leader.

He questioned the chief minister about how he promised to get the gates fixed on the dam in November itself if 72 per cent work was not completed during Naidu’s rule.

Uma said the YSRCP government should not think about undermining the Polavaram project by reducing its dam height.

He vowed that all opposition parties, along with the TDP would wage a united battle to ensure that the dam is constructed up to the original height as planned.

“Only then it would be possible to store 194 TMC while at the same time supplying another 350 TMC to all the 13 districts through canal systems,” he asserted.

Uma castigated YSRCP MP V. Vijaysai Reddy, saying that a national project like Polavaram can be achieved with commitment and determination but not politically motivated tricks and tweets.

According to Uma, Rs 11,537 crore were spent on Polavaram during Naidu’s rule while only Rs 5,135 crore were spent until 2014.

He claimed that a Rs 10,000 crore loss was inflicted on the project and indirectly on the people of Andhra Pradesh by the current government and past non-TDP governments.
